BBH Barn // Disarm Your Legacy

Winner of the BBH Barn competition

Guns don’t go to heaven when their owners pass away. And they can get themselves into all kinds of trouble down here. Heck, you could go to prison in New York state just for inheriting a firearm and not realizing you’re supposed to register it.

We created the Disarm Your Legacy campaign to help start an important conversation about responsible gun ownership after death. This was made as part of the Barn Program at BBH New York.

This campaign isn't about telling gun owners what to do with their guns. We're asking them to pledge that their firearms will be handled responsibly after they pass away.

We created a website that introduces the problem, a generator that links out to different examples of guns being passed down to people who didn't want them (or know what to do them) and lets them pledge to make sure this never happens to their friends, family and loved guns.

Gun owners are not necessarily the easiest nut to crack—that's why most gun control campaigns don't target them—but we really wanted to make an impact with our limited budget. And we even got through to a few of them, especially through our promoted Facebook posts like this video.
